Sony Raw Format
The great-grandfather of Sony's ARW format.
SRF is the original raw format used by the very first Sony digital cameras, such as the Cyber-shot DSC-F828. It predates both SR2 and ARW. Like its successors, it contains uncompressed sensor data, but it uses older encryption and structure methods that are now largely obsolete.
SRF files are TIFF-based but heavily modified. They contain the raw data from the CCD sensors used in early 2000s Sony cameras.
Replaced by SR2, which was then replaced by ARW.
BigTIFF
TIFF for files larger than 4GB.
BigTIFF (often referred to as TIFF64) is an extension of the classic TIFF format designed to break the 4GB file size barrier. It uses 64-bit offsets instead of 32-bit, allowing for files up to 18,000 petabytes.
Standard TIFF uses 32-bit integers for file offsets, limiting the file size to 2^32 bytes (4GB). BigTIFF changes the internal structure to use 64-bit integers. It is not backward compatible with older TIFF readers that only understand 32-bit offsets.
