SCT (Scitex Continuous Tone), often known as Scitex CT, typically using the extensions `.sct` or `.ct`, is a raster file format developed by Scitex Corp. It was used on their high-end drum scanners and image processing workstations which dominated the prepress industry in the 1980s and 90s.
The format is designed for CMYK color separation printing. It usually contains uncompressed, interleaved CMYK data. It is extremely robust for print workflows but large in file size. It does not support layers or vector data; it is purely for high-quality raster scans.
Scitex workstations were the 'Photoshop' before typical computers could handle images. This format allowed transferring massive scans from the scanner to the layout software (like QuarkXPress).
